Mumbai, 16 March 2023 (UTN). Actress Charrul Malik says that this year’s Academy Awards will go down in history as the happiest year for Indian cinema. We bagged, not one, but two awards! While Naatu Naatu won in the Best Original Song category and, The Elephant Whisperers won in the Documentary Short Subject category at Academy Awards.
“This is a proud moment for all of us indeed. I am super happy and super excited because of the Oscars. The Oscars are the highest, most prestigious awards in the film industry.
It has really made all of us proud. The Elephant Whisperer will inspire the other documentary makers as well. In India, people think it’s better to make a film or a series at such a level but this victory will inspire other makers. It’s a historic win that has made all of us proud. A key moment for all of India, the way these two women have waved the flag of our country is commendable. These women don’t need a google search to know them. This documentary film will make you emotional that everyone should learn,” she says.
Actress Deepika Padukone, who presented the Naatu Naatu award, has been lauded over her look and speech. “Well, Deepika Padukone’s introductory speech for Natu Natu is going viral on social media. I’m so overwhelmed to see her on the Oscar stage, she was so elegant, so confident it was truly a sight watching her introducing Natu Natu to the world. She slayed it, she killed it, I must say! Her Oscar look was very minimal, she didn’t go overboard. She was very elegant and stylish, very poised and classy, she looked English though an Indian. She was looking like an Oscar trophy herself,” says Charrul.
