Mumbai, 19 November 2025 (UTN). On the occasion of International Men’s Day, actress Shivangi Verma who has worked in shows like Tera Ishq Mera Fitoor and Choti Sarrdaarni and is currently seen in the web series Yeh Hai Sanak opens up about men’s mental health, emotional equality, and the pressures they silently carry. Sharing her thoughts, she says that this day is not just a celebration but also a reminder that men deserve the same emotional attention and understanding that women receive.
Talking about the issue, Shivangi says, “Men’s mental health is often overlooked because they are taught to stay strong and quiet. Many men grow up believing they should not show emotions. I feel this silence becomes a heavy load for them.” She believes that society needs to change the way it views men and their emotional needs.
When asked whether men today feel more comfortable expressing vulnerability, Shivangi adds, “Things are changing slowly. Many men are trying to open up now, but fear of judgment still holds them back. They worry people might call them weak. That fear stops them from being honest about what they feel.”
On the kind of support men really need, she explains, “Men need a safe space. They need friends who listen without teasing, families who encourage emotional conversations, and they should also feel free to seek professional help when needed. Therapy is not a sign of weakness — it is actually a sign of courage.”
Shivangi also believes men’s emotional struggles should be included in equality conversations. She says, “When we talk about equality, we should include everyone. Men also face pressure and silent pain. They also deserve emotional freedom. A truly equal society is one where men can express themselves without fear.”
For her, real strength is not about hiding emotions. She shares, “Real strength means being honest, being kind, and accepting that you are human. Anyone can pretend to be strong, but it takes real courage to speak your truth.”
Speaking about her own mental well-being, Shivangi concludes, “I take care of myself by staying connected to people I trust. I give myself time to slow down, breathe, and reset. Emotional health needs attention, and I believe everyone — men and women — should take it seriously.
